Bakani named new Papua New Guinea governor

Loi Bakani is the new governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea.

Bakani, previously a deputy governor at the central bank, succeeds Sir Wilson Kamit.

Bakani joined that central bank 25 years ago after completing his first economics degree. He also has masters degree in commerce.

During his time at the central bank, he has worked as a research economist and as a manager of the domestic economic conditions, monetary policy and economics departments. He became deputy governor in 2005.
