Rwanda launches mobile money scheme

The National Bank of Rwanda (NBR) has granted a license to MTN, an African telecommunications company, to trial the operation of a mobile money transfer system in the country beginning next week.

A spokesperson for MTN told Centralbanking.com: "MTN has just received a license from the National Bank of Rwanda and intends to start the pilot next week. The pilot will be run for an initial period of one month, and if successful, mobile money will be launched near the beginning of December." The
