European fin mins meeting to discuss growth, ECB

EUROPE - European finance ministers meeting in Malmo this weekend (Apr 21-22) have put the European Central Bank on notice that it had better explain its refusal to cut interest rates amid gathering gloom for global growth.

Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders, who chairs the Eurogroup of common currency nations which will meet in the evening of Apr 20, made plain in interviews published on Apr 19 that the ECB had a responsibility to respond to the cooling world economy.
