Omani banks form national ATM network

OMAN - A deal to form a national ATM network called Oman Switch by merging Shamel ATM switch and al-Watani ATM switch was signed at the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) on 17 October in the presence of Hamood bin Sanjoor al-Zadjali, CBO Executive President.

The deal was signed by 11 Omani and foreign banks operating in the Sultanate. These are: Bank Muscat, Bank Mell Iran, Citibank, Habib Bank, HSBC Bank, Majan International Bank, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, National Bank of Oman, Oman Arab Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Bank Dhofar al-Omani al-Faransi.

Al-Zadjali said the merged network will provide banking services more accurately and faster to all subscribing customers.

He said it has been agreed to link the Omani Switch with the UAE network and ATM card holders of the 11 banks in Oman can draw cash and make balance inquiry in the UAE. Similarly the ATM cardholders of all the banks in UAE can draw cash and make a balance inquiry from any of 300 ATMs in the Oman Switch.

He said no fees will be charged for this service at present but in the future those using merged network service will incur a fee.
