BOJ minutes - Board voted 8-1 to keep policy

JAPAN - The Bank of Japan's policy board members voted 8-1 to keep monetary policy unchanged at their meeting on 15-16 January, according to the minutes of the meeting released Tuesday.

Many board members were in agreement that the BOJ needed to keep watching the impact of its December easing on the economy and financial markets, the minutes showed.

The BOJ's decision to stand pat startled economists and market players who had overwhelmingly expected the BOJ to increase its monthly outright
