EU group: extend regulation, burst bubbles

The much-awaited de Larosiere report on financial regulation in the European Union (EU) has urged central bankers to burst asset-price bubbles with monetary policy and monitor all systemically-important financial institutions.

The report, penned by a group led by Jacques de Larosiere, a former governor of Banque de France and an ex-managing director of the International Monetary Fund, also suggested that central banks should shoulder at least some of the blame, identifying too loose monetary
