ECOWAS changes launch date for Eco

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo, said on Wednesday 8 Septemberthat the launch date of ECO, the proposed West African common currency, would be extended beyond 1 July, 2005.

He said this was due to "failure of the member countries to meet the convergence criteria and other pre-condition for a sustainable monetary union."

Soludo who declared open the 10th Annual Meeting of the Committee of Banking Supervisors of West and Central Africa said the Convergence
