IMF says Iraq too dangerous to open office

The International Monetary Fund said on Thursday 12 May that it is too dangerous for the Fund to open an office in Iraq at the present time but it hopes to begin talks soon on a special loan to the Iraqi government.

Speaking to reporters, IMF spokesman Thomas Dawson said that a new wave of attacks by insurgents has heightened international concerns about Iraq and "the security situation has made it impossible in terms of visiting and reestablishing a funds presence in Iraq."

However, he added that
