ECB Issing sees euro-zone recovery, CPI fall in 02

GERMANY - European Central Bank chief economist Otmar Issing Monday reiterated his expectation that the euro-zone economy will recover next year.

"We firmly expect an upswing in the economy next year," Issing said.

Issing added the ECB has already done its part. "Monetary policy has done its part to lay the groundwork for an upswing next year," Issing said.

In a repeat Monday of a speech he gave during the weekend, Issing also said he anticipates inflation to slow to below 2% in 2002.
