Koizumi to name new BOJ chief around 20 Feb

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said on Monday he will name a new central bank governor at around 20 February.

Mr Koizumi told Japanese reporters that it would take about a month to gain consensus among the ruling coalition over the planned appointment.

"So, it would be around 20 February," Koizumi was quoted by Jiji Press as saying.

Incumbent Bank of Japan governor Masaru Hayami's tenure will expire on 19 March.

Market speculation is heating up about who will succeed him.
