Cyber, suptech and CBDCs are top areas for fintech research

Central banks with fintech strategy more likely to prioritise CBDCs

Central banks’ top priority areas for research and collaboration are cyber security, supervisory technology (suptech) and central bank digital currencies, the Fintech Benchmarks 2025 find.

Cyber security is prioritised in slightly over three-quarters (77.1%) of central banks. Suptech (71.4%) and CBDCs (71.4%) are also considered important areas for research. 

Quantum computing was not mentioned by any respondent, as in the 2024 benchmark. It comes behind decentralised ledger technology (5.7%) and
