Governors’ meeting prompted expedited approval for panorama deck on listed site, says former official
Efforts by the Central Bank of Hungary (MNB) to renovate its headquarters faced legal hurdles owing to the building’s heritage status – but these were overruled by prime minister Viktor Orbán at the request of the governor, a whistleblower has alleged.
Péter Bátonyi, a heritage consultant who, until November 25, worked for the Ministry of Construction and Transport, said the MNB wanted to modify the building’s roof structure to add an observation deck.
