Claudio Borio looks back over 37 years at the BIS and Hyun Song Shin looks to the future

In December, Claudio Borio will retire from his position as head of the monetary and economic department (MED) at the Bank for International Settlements. He joined the department in October 1987 and remained for the subsequent 37 years – many of them characterised by financial turmoil – becoming joint leader of MED with Hyun Song Shin in 2014.
