Appointment of Kittiratt Na-Ranong will increase concerns about erosion of bank’s independence
Kittiratt Na-Ranong was appointed as chair of Thailand’s central bank yesterday (November 11), according to media reports.
Reuters reported that his appointment had been confirmed following a meeting of an ad hoc panel tasked with selecting a new chair independently of the government or the central bank.
Kittiratt is a former finance minister and a member of the ruling Pheu Thai party. He has been a long-time critic of the Bank of Thailand (BoT). Although the chair does not have the power to set
