Malicious actors may have quantum computers within a decade, expert group says

The Group of Seven’s (G7) cyber expert group (CEG) is calling on financial authorities to work closely with banks and raise awareness of the importance of transitioning to quantum-resilient technologies.

While the technology is still in early stages of development and far from being commercially viable – some estimates put the number of quantum computers in the hundreds globally – financial institutions should begin preparing for the risks posed by them, the group said.
