ECB official apologises for ‘reprogramming’ remarks

Elderson tells staff he believes in open debate on environmental matters after outcry

A senior European Central Bank (ECB) official has apologised to colleagues for saying some new staff members needed “reprogramming” over climate issues. 

Frank Elderson, an ECB executive board member, withdrew comments he made last month, the Financial Times reported on March 11. Sources with knowledge of the meeting confirmed to Central Banking that Elderson had apologised for his remarks and the hurt they had caused other ECB staff.
