Chilean commission proposes broader central bank mandate

Elected officials and experts will decide on proposal before voters decide in December

A commission drafting guidelines for a new Chilean constitution has proposed modifying the central bank’s mandate, to add a focus on jobs and growth.

The commission and a specially elected council will negotiate on whether to keep the proposal as part of a package of suggested changes to the country’s constitution.

A committee of experts suggested keeping the Central Bank of Chile’s (BCC) current mandate to safeguard “price stability and the normal functioning of internal and external payments
