Communications departments get involved in key policy decisions at varying stages

Early communications involvement in policy decisions raises effectiveness

There is wide variation over when central banks’ communications departments get involved in key policy decisions, data from Communications Benchmarks 2023 shows.

Sixteen out of 39 respondents (41%) said they are involved “after policy decisions are taken”. Thirteen (33%) said they are involved in the “early planning stages” of key policy decisions. The remaining 10 respondents (26%) said they get involved “during policy meetings”.

As a whole, the majority of central banks (59% of respondents)
