RBA says interest rate pause is on the cards for next month

Central bank says monetary policy is in “restrictive territory”

The Reserve Bank of Australia signalled it could pause interest rate hikes next month, according to the minutes of its March 7 meeting.

The RBA board raised the policy rate by 25 basis points to 3.6% in its last meeting, its tenth consecutive rate increase since May 2022.

While headline inflation was likely to have peaked at the end of last year, core inflation remained too high, the board said. Policy-makers also noted that the unemployment rate remained around a 50-year low, with firms
