EME governors more likely to leave role early
Emerging market economy countries also less likely to limit number of terms governors can serve
Central bank governors rarely leave their jobs early, the Governance Benchmarks 2023 find, but those in emerging market economy (EME) countries are more likely to do so than those in advanced economies.
Among the sample of 43 central banks, the mean number of governors over the last 20 years was four.
Of 40 central banks that answered how many governors had left office before the end of their scheduled term in the past 20 years, a mean figure of just 1.1 governor per central bank had done so
