Ethiopian PM nominates new central bank governor
“Young technocrat” Mamo Mihretu has served as head of sovereign wealth fund
Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed has named Mamo Mihretu to serve as governor of the central bank.
Mamo is CEO of Ethiopian Investment Holdings, a sovereign wealth fund – a post he took up last February. He was previously an adviser in Abiy’s office. In June 2019, a Financial Times article described him as one of the “young technocrats” around Abiy, who became prime minister in April 2018.
Once confirmed by parliament, Mamo will succeed Yinager Dessie, who has been governor since 2018. The
