Bank of Zambia repels cyber attack
‘Hive’ hacker collective fails to steal valuable data and central bank refuses ransom talks
The Bank of Zambia announced that a cyber attack had disrupted certain bank services on May 9. The central bank later confirmed that hackers had attempted to seize its data using ransomware but failed to compromise any vital information.
In the central bank’s press release on the incident, dated May 13, assistant communications director Besnat Mwanza said that the assault had interrupted the central bank’s website and its bureau de change monitoring system.
