A new Sri Lankan prime minister took office on May 12, one day after the central bank governor threatened to resign over the lack of stable government.

“I have clearly told the president and other political party leaders that unless political stability is established in the next two weeks I will step down,” P Nandalal Weerasinghe told reporters on May 11. The next day, Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as prime minister, a job he has held previously on four different occasions.
