When the Covid-19 pandemic befell the world, De La Rue was already in intensive care. After the loss of a contract to print UK passports in 2019 and an unpaid bill of £18 million ($24.1 million) from the Central Bank of Venezuela, the printing company admitted “significant doubt” about its ability to survive that November.
