ECB ends liquidity relief measures for banks
Lenders have not used buffers and coverage ratios exceed minimum levels, data shows
The European Central Bank announced today (December 17) that it will not extend liquidity relief measures for banks beyond the end of this month.
In a statement, the ECB said eurozone banks have not had to dip into liquidity buffers during the pandemic. It said current average liquidity coverage ratios considerably exceed minimum requirements.
The liquidity coverage ratio is the relationship between high-liquidity assets on banks’ balance sheets and their expected cash outflows during a 30-day
