IMF proposes Gita Gopinath for first deputy MD post
Georgieva hails chief economist’s move amid difficult relations with US administration
The International Monetary Fund’s second most senior official will step down early next year, and is likely to be replaced by its chief economist Gita Gopinath.
The IMF announced on December 2 that Gopinath “is proposed to be the fund’s new first deputy managing director”, after Geoffrey Okamoto leaves the role. “She is the right person at the right time,” said IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva.
