BIS and HKMA start work on green bond infrastructure project

Digital platform based on blockchain aims to improve green bond market’s transparency

The Bank for International Settlement’s Innovation Hub and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced they are developing a digital infrastructure for issuing “tokenised” green bonds.

The BIS said “Project Genesis” aimed to streamline the green bond investment process and make the market more transparent.

“Genesis will explore the tokenisation of green bonds enabling investment in small denominations, combined with real-time tracking of environmental outputs,” it said.

The BIS noted that
