Tajikistan central bank announces rate hike
Currency devaluation in 2020 has added to inflationary pressure
The Tajikistan central bank’s monetary policy committee decided to increase the policy rate by 100 basis points on April 27, bringing its policy rate to 12%. The move is the second increase this year, following a 25bp raise in February.
The National Bank of Tajikistan cited above-target inflation in explaining its decision. Inflation reached 10.1% in March, it said. The central bank especially noted the rise in food prices, which it measured at 13.3%. The International Monetary Fund predicts 8%
