Taiwan dollar weakens over fears of US action
US Treasury expected to label Asian ally a currency manipulator on next exchange rate report
The Taiwanese dollar has depreciated sharply over the past month, partly on fears the US Department of the Treasury could label the country a currency manipulator.
Since March 4, Taiwan’s currency has depreciated by approximately 2.6% against its US counterpart, reaching 28.45 to the dollar
The US government, then led by president Donald Trump, added Taiwan to its watch list in its latest exchange rate report in December 2020. The report administration said Taiwan met three criteria the US
