Bolivian central bank repays ‘unconstitutional’ IMF loan
Central bank says loan was illegal and threatens legal action against officials responsible
The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) announced on February 17 that the April 2020 IMF loan had been “arranged irregularly by the de facto government”. From November 2019 until November 2020, an interim government headed by Jeanine Áñez ruled Bolivia.
Áñez became president after a mixture of public and military pressure forced previous president Evo Morales to resign, following a disputed general election. In October 2020, Morales’s Movement for Socialism party won the presidential election, and
