IMF criticises sacking of Zambian governor
Statement says governments should safeguard independence but language is notably restrained
The International Monetary Fund has responded to the Zambian president’s dismissal of the country’s central bank governor with an implicitly critical statement.
Zambian president Edgar Lungu announced on August 22 that he had dismissed governor Denny Kalyalya. The governor was fired three days after he warned of Zambia’s growing economic problems.
