ECB buys Italian bonds well above capital key in March
Central bank bought €11.8 billion in Italian sovereign bonds last month, up from €2.2 billion in February
The European Central Bank sharply increased purchases of Italian sovereign bonds in March, overshooting the amount stipulated by its capital key, according to official data published on April 6.
Under the Public Sector Purchase Programme (PSPP), part of the broader Asset Purchase Programme (APP), the ECB bought more than €11.8 bilion ($12.8 billion) in Italian sovereign debt, up from more than €2.2 billion in February.
Total net asset purchases under the PSPP amounted to €37.3 billion
