IMF staff says Congo must stop central bank financing
Report warns reserves are being eroded and says government must repay central bank
Staff from the International Monetary Fund have said the central bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) government must stop financing government spending.
Lending to the government by the Banque Central du Congo had caused “an erosion of BCC international reserves”, an IMF staff report said. The report, published on February 25, said there was a “need to put immediately a stop to central bank advances and repay those given”.
