DNB to tighten macro-pru over real estate fears

EBA says Dutch central bank fears overheating after house prices in large cities exceed previous peak

The Netherlands Bank wants to impose tighter macro-prudential restrictions on Dutch lenders’ exposure to property loans, over fears the housing market is overheating.

The DNB intends to impose the new measure in the autumn of 2020, according to an official opinion published by the European Banking Authority today (February 10). Dutch banks, which calculate their capital ratios using an internal ratings based (IRB) approach will have to meet a minimum average risk-weight floor for certain
