Trump threatens to cut off Iraq from New York Fed account
Central Bank of Iraq risks losing access to New York Fed account if government ousts US soldiers
President Donald Trump has reportedly threatened to use the Federal Reserve’s control over part of Iraq’s foreign exchange reserves as a bargaining tool to keep US soldiers on the ground in the Middle Eastern state.
The warning follows the Iraqi parliament’s vote on January 5 for a non-binding resolution to end an agreement with the US to station soldiers in Iraq. If the Iraqi government approves the request, it could lead to US soldiers being ejected from the country.
