BIS adds members and boosts EME voices on committees

Emerging markets now better represented on key governance bodies

The Bank for International Settlements has expanded its membership for the first time since 2011, adding three new countries.

The central banks of Kuwait, Morocco and Vietnam will join the BIS, taking its total number of members to 63.

“Reviewing membership at regular intervals ensures the membership base remains in keeping with the bank’s global profile,” said Jens Weidmann, Deutsche Bundesbank president and chair of the BIS board.
