RBI launches app to help visually impaired

App can be used by people with visual impairment to identify banknotes

The Reserve Bank of India has launched an app to help visually impaired people identify banknotes.

The ‘mobile-aided note identifier’ can be downloaded on Android or Apple phones. When a person scans a banknote using their phone, the app reads the denomination aloud. For those with both visual and hearing impairment, the app can identify notes using vibrations.

The RBI said in a statement that banknotes already have several features to aid in their identification, including tactile features

Only users who have a paid subscription or are part of a corporate subscription are able to print or copy content.
