ECB welcomes Swedish draft law to order banks to supply cash
Proposed law follows Riksbank’s warnings on risks of Sweden’s rapid move away from cash
The European Central Bank has published a legal opinion backing a draft law proposed by Sweden’s coalition government, that aims at ensuring the country’s largest banks make cash available to citizens.
The ECB said it “welcomes the core objectives of the draft law, namely to facilitate the continued use of cash in Swedish society by ensuring an adequate level of access to cash services throughout Sweden”. The draft law follows a series of warnings to Swedish lawmakers by Sveriges Riksbank. The
