Rwanda central bank spearheading cashless movement
Central bank reports e-payments have increased to 34.6% of GDP
The National Bank of Rwanda is pressing ahead with plans to transform the country into a cashless economy.
“A decade ago the idea of transitioning Rwanda to a cashless economy would have been unthinkable,” governor John Rwangombwa said at a conference today (October 30).
“But with the technology revolution and a world where the internet has taken over, the turning point to a digital-led and enabled economy is now.”
