Brazil cuts main rate to new record low
Policy-makers cite subdued inflation as they move rates down a further 50 basis points
The Central Bank of Brazil implemented a much-anticipated rate cut on September 18, continuing its easing cycle with a 50 basis point cut.
The action lowered the policy rate to 5.5%, a new record low. The Copom policy committee cited a mix of rate cuts in advanced economies, an economic slowdown and below-target inflation as the main factors behind the decision. The cut came just a few hours after the Federal Reserve lowered its main rate 25 basis points.
In August, inflation at 3.4% remained
