Norges Bank bucks global easing trend with rate hike
Central bank’s third hike this year may be its last for some time, governor hints
Norges Bank has continued to buck the global trend towards monetary easing, raising its policy rate 25 basis points at today’s meeting (September 19).
The action brings the policy rate to 1.5%, one of the highest among advanced economies. The central bank has hiked the rate three times this year. Key factors in the decision include “solid” growth and capacity utilisation that is “somewhat above a normal level”, the central bank said in a statement.
