European bank capital to rise by €135bn to meet Basel III
Minimum capital requirements would increase on average by 24.4%, says the European Banking Authority
The implementation of Basel III in the European banking sector would sharply increase minimum capital requirements, says the European Banking Authority (EBA).
The EBA assesses “the full implementation of Basel III, under conservative assumptions, will increase the minimum capital requirement (MRC) by 24.4% on average”. This evaluation is part of the advice the European Commission requested from the EBA to implement the new framework.
Basel III is a set of international banking regulations
