Riksbank shies away from global easing cycle

Swedish central bank maintains rate hike plans despite accommodative policy shift in Europe, US, Australia

The executive board of Sveriges Riksbank maintained plans today (July 3) to increase interest rates later this year or in early 2020, despite a looser stance in much of the world.

As expected, rate setters left the repo rate unchanged at –0.25%. The Swedish central bank did not modify the wording of its previous policy statement in April, and reiterated that rates “will be increased again towards the end of the year or at the beginning of next year”.
