Central banks must become more diverse – Carney
Improving diversity increases strength and reduces groupthink, BoE governor argues
Bank of England governor Mark Carney said central banks must improve the gender and ethnic diversity of their staff, in a speech on March 28.
“The bank’s first female court member, Frances Heaton, was appointed only in 1993, while our first black, Asian and minority ethnic (Bame) member, Lord Morris, followed five years later,” said the BoE’s governor. “I’m the 120th in a very long line of male, white governors of the bank.”
