IMF supports Argentina’s efforts to tame inflation

Central bank extended monetary base targeting after inflation rose sharply in February

International Monetary Fund staff have praised recent measures implemented by the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) to bring inflation under control, speaking after a review of the ongoing support programme for the embattled economy.

On March 14, BCRA governor Guido Sandleris announced an end-2019 extension of the monetary base targeting regime, just after the publication of higher inflation data in February. Month-on-month inflation was 3.8% in February, up from 2.8% in January, say official
