Two FOMC members signal Fed may hold rates steady
New York and Boston Fed presidents expect US growth to slow to 2% this year
The Federal Reserve may hold off on policy rate increases for some time, two Federal Open Market Committee members have signalled in recent speeches.
Boston Fed president Eric Rosengren said on March 5 that the Fed may need “several meetings” to get clarity on the US economy.
A day later, New York Fed president John Williams said in a speech to The Economic Club of New York that the “new normal” of slower growth means the central bank can afford to wait before raising rates.
