Brazil’s new president Jair Bolsonaro plans to formally establish the independence of the country’s central bank in his first 100 days in office, chief of staff Onyx Lorenzoni said on January 23, Reuters reports.
Bolsonaro, who took over the presidency from Michel Temer on January 1, promised he would propose legislation to make the central bank formally independent while campaigning last year.
