Slovak governor resigns early as politicians express interest in job
Three candidates from governing party may consider taking over as governor, local media says
Slovakia’s central bank governor has resigned early from his post and the country’s finance minister has said that he would like to fill the role.
The National Bank of Slovakia announced on November 27 that current governor Jozef Makúch intended to step down as governor on March 1, 2019. The announcement was contained in an NBS statement describing the most recent meeting of the bank’s board and gave no reason for Makúch‘s decision. He was due to retire from the role in January 2021.
