Trump nominates former Fed economist for board role

Nellie Liang’s nomination may help the Fed guard against potential future downturns

US president Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate former Federal Reserve economist Nellie Liang to the board of governors, in a move that could boost the board’s financial stability expertise.

In a statement from the White House on September 19, Liang was nominated to sit on the board for the remainder of a 14-year term, expiring on January 31, 2024. Subject to approval, she will join Jerome Powell, Richard Clarida, Randal Quarles and Lael Brainard.
