Risks from climate change are already showing up in the financial sector and firms need to do more to take action, the Bank of England’s executive director for international banks supervision said today (May 14).

Financial risks from climate change are “already with us”, Breeden told a gathering of green-minded financiers in London.

Weather-related insurance losses are rising, while firms linked to fossil fuels are beginning to see their market valuations drop; namely, those in the coal
